The Loop is Chicago’s historic heart — the downtown core ringed by the elevated ‘L’ tracks that give it its name. It was here, in the 1880s, that the steel-framed skyscraper was pioneered, and the streets around State, LaSalle, and Dearborn still hold one of the world’s great concentrations of early high-rise architecture.
Many of those landmark towers — former banks, office blocks, and theaters — have been carefully restored as hotels, so a night in the Loop often means sleeping inside a genuine piece of architectural history, steps from the Art Institute, Millennium Park, and the State Street shopping corridor.
