Historic hotels in River North

Once a district of warehouses, factories, and the wholesale trade, River North reinvented itself first as Chicago’s gallery district and then as one of its liveliest dining and nightlife quarters. Its sturdy old loft and commercial buildings have proven ideal for adaptive reuse, and many now house characterful boutique hotels.

Set just north of the river and west of Michigan Avenue, it is central, energetic, and full of restaurants and galleries.

You can read the old trade in the buildings. The Chicago Hotel Collection River North occupies a former Borden’s dairy depot that runs the length of its block beside the ‘L’. FOUND Hotel is in an 1891 commercial block, and ACME keeps The Berkshire Room, a cocktail bar where the house signature is to let the bartender choose. Hotel Chicago Downtown is inside Marina City itself.
