Why this building matters
The IBM Building (now AMA Plaza) was one of the last designs of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, completed in 1971, a sleek dark-steel-and-glass tower that distills his “less is more” ideals on the riverfront. The Langham occupies its lower floors, opened in 2013, with interiors that echo Mies’s clarity while delivering some of the most acclaimed service and rooms in Chicago.
