Why this building matters
Built in 1924 as the Diversey Arms, the building has hosted more than a century of musicians: jazz cornetist Bix Beiderbecke lived here in 1925 and played the Rendezvous Café on the corner, and in later decades touring rock acts made it a north-side haven. A recent redesign leaned into that heritage with local art and playful, music-inflected style, earning design accolades while keeping the building in lively use.
